Lusten up, bitches. No-one’s leavung thus arena untul yev all bought three copies of may aylbum.
So basically I just thought I wanted to write SOMETHING about my favourite band of all time. It’s been 3 days since the split was announced, (though what a fucking way to announce it, TWITLONGER?! No.) and I’ve had time to digest it all so now seems a good time.
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a hardcore fan of them in the beginning. Though to be honest I wasn’t really a fan of music full stop. I remember watching Top Of The Pops Saturday and the ‘Wake Me Up’ music video was on. It was just fantastic. The song was amazing. The video was amazingly shit. They were amazing. I had to have it, but these were the days when I wasn’t so internet savvy. In fact in our house we didn’t have the internet at all! I phoned my mum and told her that with the last of Christmas money I wanted her to get me the ‘What Will The Neighbours Say?’ album. And I don’t think I stopped listening to it for about a week. Girls Aloud had got me into music in a big way and I can’t thank them enough for that really.
One of my friends is also a HUGE Girls Aloud fan. When we were at school, I think they were all we ever talked about. But that was Girls Aloud. They were so much more than just another band. They were about the whole package.
Over the years my fandom and love for them just grew and grew. The first time I saw them live was at Nottingham for their 1st greatest hits tour. The arena was fucking freezing and most of the crowd were as miserable as anything. But I didn’t care. I stood there in complete awe of them and loved every minute of it. ‘Sexy! No No No…’ and ‘Tangled Up’ came and have since become my favourite song and album of all time. That album is pop perfection.
The time came for them to take a year’s break in 2009 and I was fine with that, so long as they came back as promised. They did deserve a break. I still don’t really know why the year turned into three. Were they seriously enjoying their solo projects more than Girls Aloud? It alarmingly seemed to be, so when the time came to eventually reform in 2012 to celebrate their tenth anniversary I was thrilled. My favourite band were back and I was so happy. ‘Something New’ was all I wanted and more with knobs on. And the tour! It was brilliant seeing them perform live again, it’s what they do best.
So even though it wasn’t a shock to hear they had split it was still heartbreaking. Yes, heartbreaking. A band I had invested so much time (not to mention MONEY!) in over the years was gone. And that was hard to come to terms with. Like I said before, they were the whole package. I want an artist/band to be able to perform fucking incredible pop songs and perform them well and Girls Aloud did just that. It’s even more disappointing that by the sounds of tweets and rumours and the sort, that not all the girls wanted the band to finish. Nadine has been the star of the reunion.
We’ll have to see what the future holds for Solo Aloud. Girls Aloud will be missed but certainly not forgotten.
When they were around, they were untouchable.
